Copyright: Milden Hall

A private visit to Milden Hall, a Grade II* Georgianised 16th-century hall farmhouse on a working farm farmed by the Hawkins family for over 200 years. They are inveterate collectors and local historians and the tour of the house is full of fascinating interest.  We shall have a light lunch in a magnificent aisled Tudor barn.

Next we visit Acton church, c. 5 miles away towards Long Melford, where the churchwarden will introduce us to its fascinating history, including some of the finest brasses in the country, and the tomb of Robert Jennens whose descendants’ legal battle over their inheritance was said to be the inspiration for Jarndyce v Jarndyce in Dickens’ Bleak House.
