This illustrated talk by Heather Lane explores how Inuit artists use their natural environment to produce unique and beautiful representations of Canada’s northern regions in sculpture and printmaking.  Inuit art was first brought to wide public attention in the UK by a significant exhibition staged to mark the Coronation in 1953.

Heather is a former Librarian and Keeper of Collections at the Scott Polar Research Institute in Lensfield Road and has curated many exhibitions of Inuit art in the UK, bringing Inuit artists here to showcase their work. She is also the co-editor of an authoritative work, TUVAQ: Inuit art and the modern world. Heather’s talk focuses on the impetus behind the major developments in Inuit art since the 1940s.
